Every server can be reached over SFTP (FTP over SSH). Open the server in the panel, go to Settings. The SFTP Details box shows everything:

  • Host: node1.penguhost.com
  • Port: 4001
  • Username: your panel username plus a dot and the server ID, e.g. moritz.9f3a2b1c (copy it from the panel, it is generated)
  • Password: your panel password (the same as on the website)

Plain FTP (port 21) does not exist here. There is only SFTP, which is encrypted.

FileZilla

  1. File → Site Manager → New Site.
  2. Protocol SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol.
  3. Host node1.penguhost.com, Port 4001, Logon Type Normal, user and password from the panel.
  4. Connect. Accept the host key the first time. You land in the server root, the same folder the panel shows.

Drag files from the left (your PC) to the right (server). FileZilla queues them and retries failed transfers.

WinSCP

  1. New Session, File protocol SFTP.
  2. Host name node1.penguhost.com, Port number 4001, user name and password from the panel.
  3. Login, accept the key, done.

Tips

  • Set the client's transfer type to binary (default in both). ASCII mode corrupts jars and world files.
  • Uploading a folder with thousands of small files is slow over any SFTP; zip it first and unpack on the server.
  • "Authentication failed": the username is panelname.serverid, not your e-mail. Check for a trailing space.
  • Subusers can use SFTP too if they have the SFTP permission. They use their own panel login.
