The terms you meet in the panel, in Minecraft, in Rust, ARK and in our billing, explained in one or two sentences each.

Allocation: an IP-and-port pair assigned to your server. The first one is your primary address; extra allocations are additional ports (for plugins, voice, query).

Auto-renew: the dashboard setting that extends your server from your balance before it expires. Off by default for one-time purchases.

Backup: a compressed snapshot of your server's files stored outside the container. Slots are per plan; locked backups are never rotated automatically.

Bedrock: Minecraft's phone/console/Windows-10 edition. Not compatible with Java servers without Geyser.

Balance / credit: money on your PenguHost account, used for purchases, renewals and upgrades. Invite rewards and support-link income land here.

Chunk: a 16×16 block column of a Minecraft world. Loaded chunks are what cost RAM and CPU.

Console: the panel tab showing the server's output, with a command line at the bottom.

Container: the isolated environment your server runs in (Docker). It has the RAM and CPU limits you bought.

CPU share: how many cores your container may use at once. 100 % = one core, 200 % = two.

Crash report: the file Minecraft writes when the server dies, in crash-reports/. Kowalski reads them.

Days: our billing unit. A server is bought for 30, 90 or 365 days and expires on a date, not at month end.

DDoS (distributed denial of service): flooding a server with traffic so real players cannot reach it. Filtered at our network entry point.

Egg: Pterodactyl's recipe for a game (install script, start command, variables).

EULA: Mojang's end-user licence agreement; a Minecraft server does not start until eula.txt says eula=true.

Fabric: a lightweight Minecraft mod loader. Fast, popular for performance mods and modern packs.

Forge: the classic Minecraft mod loader, most common for 1.12-1.20 packs.

Geyser: a proxy that lets Bedrock players join Java servers.

Java version: the runtime a Minecraft server needs (8 for old versions, 17 for 1.17-1.20.4, 21 for 1.20.5 and newer). Selected under Startup → Docker image.

JVM flags: options passed to Java at startup (memory, garbage collector). The startup command handles memory for you.

Kill: stop the server immediately without saving. Only when a normal stop hangs.

Kowalski: our assistant in the panel. Can read console, logs and files, explain errors and suggest fixes.

LuckPerms: the standard permissions plugin for Minecraft.

Modpack: a curated set of mods with configs, installed together. Our installer takes Modrinth packs.

Modrinth: a mod, plugin and modpack platform with an open API; the source for our installer.

NeoForge: a fork of Forge used by most 1.20.2+ modpacks.

Node: a physical machine running Wings and many customer containers. Ours is node1.penguhost.com.

Oxide / uMod: the plugin framework for Rust servers.

Paper: the most-used Minecraft server software; runs Bukkit/Spigot plugins with better performance than either.

Port: the number after the colon in node1.penguhost.com:4207. It tells the node which server you mean.

Prorated: charged for the days that remain, not the full period. All upgrades and downgrades are prorated.

Query port: a second port some games use so server lists can ask for player count and name (Rust, ARK, Source games).

RAM: memory. Dedicated per server; the main factor in plan price.

RCON: remote console; a protocol to send commands to a running server from outside (Rust and Minecraft support it).

Schedule: the panel's cron-like tool to run a command, restart, or back up at set times.

Seed: the number that generates a Minecraft world. Same seed, same world.

SFTP: file transfer over SSH; how you connect FileZilla or WinSCP to your server (host node1.penguhost.com, port 4001, your panel login).

Spigot: Minecraft server software; Paper is its faster successor. Plugins are compatible.

SRV record: a DNS record that lets Minecraft Java players use a domain without typing the port.

Startup variables: the fields under the Startup tab (version, memory, server name, passwords ...), defined by the egg.

Subuser: another panel account with selected rights on your server.

Support link: a public page per server where players can chip in for hosting costs; the money lands on the owner's balance.

TPS: ticks per second; a healthy Minecraft server runs at 20. Below 15 the game visibly slows.

Vanilla: the unmodified game server as published by the developer.

Velocity: a Minecraft proxy that connects several servers into one network.

Whitelist: a list of players who may join; everyone else is refused.

Wings: Pterodactyl's daemon on each node; it starts containers, streams the console and handles backups.

Wipe: deleting the world (Rust, ARK, 7 Days) to start fresh; Rust servers wipe on a schedule.

World: the folder holding your game's map and player data; the thing to back up.
