Protect your server from griefing

Whitelist, claims, logging and rollback: the four layers that make griefing pointless.

Griefing is not a question of if on an open server. Four layers, cheapest first:

  1. Whitelist. On a friends server, nobody who is not on the list gets in. whitelist on, add names. Done. Details in EULA, whitelist and OP.
  2. Claims. On public servers, players protect their own builds: GriefPrevention (golden shovel claims) or Lands (chunk claims with a GUI). Spawn and shops get WorldGuard regions.
  3. Logging. CoreProtect records every block and container interaction. /co inspect then click a block to see who did what and when.
  4. Rollback. /co rollback u:PlayerName t:2h r:30 undoes two hours of one player's changes in a 30-block radius. Griefing that can be undone in ten seconds stops being fun.

Also

  • spawn-protection in server.properties for the spawn area.
  • Disable TNT/fire spread with WorldGuard flags in build worlds.
  • Keep OP to yourself; give ranks via LuckPerms.
  • Back up nightly so that even the worst case is one restore away.

For Rust: whitelist plugins, server.pve settings, and the Anti Offline Raid plugin on friendly servers.
