Crossplay with Geyser and Floodgate

Let phone and console players join your Java server: step by step, including the extra port and the console trick.

Geyser translates the Bedrock protocol to Java. Floodgate lets Bedrock players join without a Java account. Together, a Paper server becomes joinable from everything.

1. An extra port

Geyser listens on its own UDP port. In the dashboard, Modify the server and add one allocation (a few cents), or ask Kowalski to check whether you already have a spare one in the Network tab.

2. Install

Plugins tab → search Geyser → install Geyser-Spigot. Then search Floodgate → install. Restart once so both create their config files.

3. Configure Geyser

Edit plugins/Geyser-Spigot/config.yml:

  • bedrock: port: → your extra port number (from the Network tab)
  • bedrock: clone-remote-port: false
  • auth-type: floodgate (under remote)

Restart.

4. Join

  • Phone / Windows Bedrock: Servers → Add server → address node1.penguhost.com, port = the Geyser port.
  • Xbox / PlayStation / Switch: consoles cannot enter custom addresses. Players use a "BedrockConnect" DNS trick or the "add a friend" feature via a third-party account; search for BedrockConnect. The official Geyser docs keep an up-to-date page.

Known limits

Bedrock players see Java skins only with the GeyserSkinManager add-on, some Java-only blocks look slightly different, and resource packs for Bedrock need conversion. Mods (Forge/Fabric) are Java-only in any case. Geyser on a modded server gives Bedrock players a broken view.
