Java Edition runs on PC (Windows, macOS, Linux). Bedrock Edition is the one on phones, tablets, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and the Windows Store version. They are different programs with different servers and they cannot join each other's worlds unless you bridge them.
On PenguHost
- Minecraft (Paper / Fabric / Forge / NeoForge) = Java servers. Plugins, mods, modpacks, datapacks, the whole ecosystem.
- Minecraft Bedrock = the official Bedrock Dedicated Server. Add-ons and behaviour packs work; plugins and Java mods do not. Console players join with the address and port from the panel; on Xbox/PlayStation this needs a small trick (see Crossplay).
Serving both
Run a Java (Paper) server with Geyser and Floodgate. Bedrock players join your Java server through it: phones, consoles, PC, all in one world. This is what most mixed friend groups want. It needs one extra port; the guide walks you through it.
Which to pick
Only Bedrock players, no interest in plugins: Bedrock server. Everyone else: Paper with Geyser. Modpacks: Java only. Bedrock cannot load Forge/Fabric mods, with or without Geyser.
