You can buy your own domain right in the dashboard, for example yourserver.com or yourserver.de. You own it, it is paid from your balance, and you manage everything in the same place as your servers: server connection, DNS records and e-mail addresses.
Many people asking for their "own IP" actually want exactly this: an address that belongs to them. A domain is that address. The free penguhost.com address is the no-cost alternative.
Buy a domain
- Open the dashboard, Domains, tab My domains.
- Type a name (
yourserver) or a full domain (yourserver.de) and click Search. You see which endings are free, the price for the first year and the yearly renewal price. - Click Buy, choose the period and enter your contact details. You become the owner of the domain, and the registry needs your real details. Where the rules allow it, they are not shown publicly.
- Confirm the checkbox and click Buy now from balance. The domain is usually registered within seconds.
All endings we offer through our partner Openprovider can be bought. Prices are net and come from your balance. Not enough balance? Top it up first.
Important: a registration is carried out at the registry right away and cannot be undone. Domains are therefore not refundable, also not in part.
Connect your game server
Click Manage on the domain, choose the server under Connect a game server and click Connect. We create the records for you:
- Minecraft Java: an A record and an SRV record, so players join with
play.yourserver.comand no port. - Every other game: an A record; players join with
play.yourserver.com:port.
play is only the default; you can use any name, or leave it empty for the bare domain. Records we create are shown with a lock. Remove the connection to change them.
DNS records
Under DNS records you add or remove A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV and CAA records yourself, for example a TXT record for a Google or Discord verification, or a CNAME for a website hosted elsewhere. For a website with HTTPS on your server use the website proxy.
Renewal
With Auto-renew switched on we renew the domain in the last 14 days before it expires and take the yearly price from your balance. If your balance is too low, you get an e-mail. You can also renew for several years at once with Renew now. A domain that expires can be deleted and taken by someone else, so keep an eye on the reminder e-mails.
Moving the domain away
The domain is yours. Under Move to another provider you get the transfer code that your new provider asks for. Some endings block moves in the first 60 days after registration.
