Point your own domain at the server

An A or CNAME record at your registrar, what to expect, and the difference between the address and the port.

Instead of node1.penguhost.com:4123 you want play.yourdomain.com. Two steps: the name (this guide) and, for Minecraft Java, the port (SRV record).

No own domain yet? Buy one in the dashboard, and both steps become one click. The free penguhost.com address does the same at no cost. For a website on your domain, use the website proxy instead.

DNS record

At your domain registrar (Namecheap, Cloudflare, IONOS, Strato...) open the DNS settings and add:

  • Type CNAME, name play, target your server address (e.g. survival.penguhost.com) or node1.penguhost.com (preferred, because it follows our IP automatically).
  • or type A, name play, value our IP (shown in the Network tab next to the host name).

DNS changes take a few minutes to an hour to spread.

Result

Players connect to play.yourdomain.com:4123. The port is still there. For Java, the SRV record removes it. Bedrock, Rust, ARK, Valheim and the others always need the port; a nice domain just makes the first half easier to remember.

Cloudflare users

Set the record to DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied. Cloudflare's proxy handles websites, not game traffic.
