Your server can run more than a game: a dashboard for your Discord bot, a small website, a Dynmap or BlueMap, an API. The website proxy puts a proper address with HTTPS in front of it, so visitors open https://map.yourdomain.com instead of http://node1.penguhost.com:4123.
How it works
Visitors connect to our front server. It takes care of HTTPS and forwards each request to the port of your server. You need no own IP address, and your app does not have to deal with certificates at all.
Option A: your penguhost.com address
If your server already has a server address, click Or use your PenguHost address in the website proxy form. HTTPS works immediately, because our certificate covers every name under penguhost.com.
Option B: your own domain
- At your domain provider, create an A record for the name you want (
mapfor map.yourdomain.com, or@for the bare domain). The value is the **IP shown in the Domains tab *Website proxy*** under Own domain? Point it to our server first. For a domain bought at PenguHost, add this record under My domains → Manage → DNS records. On Cloudflare, set it to DNS only (grey cloud). - In the dashboard under Domains, tab Website proxy: pick the server, enter the domain, click Connect domain.
- As soon as your record is live, a free Let's Encrypt certificate is issued automatically. If you were faster than DNS, click Enable HTTPS now a little later.
www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com are two different names. Connect both if you want both to work.
Which port?
By default the proxy forwards to your server's main port. If the game itself uses the main port (Minecraft, Rust ...), add an extra port for the website and enter it under Advanced → Web server port. Only ports that belong to your server are accepted.
Your app has to:
- listen on
0.0.0.0(not127.0.0.1) and on exactly that port, - speak plain HTTP. HTTPS is handled by us.
Good to know
- WebSockets work, so live maps and dashboards update in real time.
- Uploads through the proxy can be up to 64 MB per request. Need more? Open a ticket.
- Your app sees the visitor's real IP in the
X-Forwarded-ForandX-Real-IPheaders, andX-Forwarded-Proto: https. - Once the certificate is issued,
http://is redirected tohttps://automatically. - Limits: 3 domains per server, 10 per account.
- The proxy is for websites only. Game traffic does not go through it; for that use the server address or a CNAME and SRV record.
Status in the dashboard
- Pending setup: just created.
- Live · HTTP (waiting for DNS): works over http; the certificate follows as soon as your DNS record points to us.
- Live · HTTPS: done.
- Error: see domain or HTTPS not working.
- Paused by support: please open a ticket.
